Marriott’s The Luxury Collection to launch first Seychelles property in 2019
With the signing of North Island, Marriott International will soon bring its touch of luxury to one of the world’s most exclusive private island resorts.
North Island, for the unfamiliar, ranks as one of the world’s most luxurious private island resorts. Set among the inner granitic island of Seychelles, it is owned by the North Island Company Limited.
The resort is slated to join The Luxury Collection’s portfolio of world-renowned hospitality properties later this year.
Managed by ASMALLWORLD, the leading members-only club dedicated to international travel and luxury, North Island, a Luxury Collection Resort, Seychelles will be the organization’s first property in the eagerly awaited ASW Hotel Collection.
A SECLUDED TROPICAL HAVEN
North Island is known the world over for its pristine white sand beaches which surround a tropical haven filled with coconut palms and indigenous takamaka trees. All that beauty is cradled between three dramatic granite outcrops overlooking the vast azure ocean.
The resort will feature eleven 4,890 sqft (454 sqm) private villas with panoramic oceanfront views, which creates a prevailing sense of exclusivity and privacy.
This will give guests room to unwind and enjoy an intimate, island-style experience amid one of the world’s most luxurious settings.
In addition to the stunning villas, the resort will also feature a lounge, dining room, state-of-the-art spa and gym, infinity pool, and intimate sunset bar and restaurant located on the island’s western side.
North Island’s Library will offer a standout experience for guests with an extensive natural history collection resulting from a devoted, meticulous renovation of the old coral ruins.
In addition to housing a large selection of books and artefacts, The Library will also play host to immersive marine life presentations and environmental programs.
North Island is located approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Mahe Island, Seychelles’ main and largest island.
Arriving at the property is simple and tailored for guests: They may choose between a 15-minute helicopter transfer or a one-hour boat trip from Mahe Island.
CREATING THE IMMERSIVE NORTH ISLAND EXPERIENCE
Led by acclaimed site architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, North Island’s environmentally-friendly architecture is inspired by the destination’s natural beauty.
Each room will feature local materials such as wood, local stone and glass, all of which are individually crafted by Seychellois and African artisans. Natural thatched roofs complete the magnificent design.
South Africa-based interior design firm LIFE strikingly captured the spirit of understated elegance and quiet authenticity that is characteristic of North Island. The organic aesthetic is largely formed by the destination’s unmatched beauty and rich flora and fauna.
